Emma Wats-happened to your hair? Potter girl aims for Top of the Crops

Words by Rahsian Parris

Forgive us if we’re not overly excited about every celebrity hair cut to hit the latest gossip mag pages, but when we heard that golden girl Emma Watson had chopped off all her locks, we couldn’t help but (cooly and casually *ahem*) Google the news to see exactly what all the fuss was about. Needless to say we were slightly taken aback at just how short it is. Yes we know what cropping your hair means and yes we also know what the ‘pixie’ cut is, yet armed with this information, we were still bordering on speechless when we saw the pictures, however, it was for all the right reasons. Several inches of gorgeous glowing hair gone in one foul swoop, but in a move that the Harry Potter actress described as “liberating”, we have to say that, in our opinion, it’s not as horrific as everyone is making out. It’s not like we haven’t seen lovely-long-to-crazy-short before and there have been cases far worse (Solange Knowles and Britney Spears anyone?). So we reckon that everyone needs to give Emma Watson a bit of slack, she’s still young, very cute and we think she pulls off her new cropped style beautifully, ok so now she looks even younger than before (as if it were possible), but lest we forget that Miss Watson used to be a Burberry model and if there’s any one group of girls that are queens of the crop, it is the Burberry models (clearly her new look came a little too late, but never mind). We’ll leave it to you to decide, is Emma Watson’s new cut a hair DO or a hair DON’T?

…And the ones that we never really liked

When Aggy went from chic crop to butch beach bum

She’s always had her hair short, but when model Agynes Deyn decided to shave her head, what could’ve been hot Gi-Jane turned into Ken doll reject.

When Victoria Beckham went from Pob to Poxie (speaks for itself really)

The Posh Bob (Pob) was arguably the most copied hair cut ever to hit our salons, but when Mrs Beckham decided to go several inches shorter, we all thought… uhm, nah!

When Solange went from luscious to lackluster

Sister of singer Beyonce always sported tresses similar in length to her superstar sibling, but decided that it was time for a change, one number 1 buzz later and this is what was left. Reminds us of the time we got chewing gum stuck in our hair and had to get it all cut off, not a look we would recreate out of choice.

The tale of Emma Watson’s hair is a very sad one.

Hint: I think she’s tantalizingly close to becoming a creepy drifter who drives a windowless van!

    It’s definitely a Hair DO!
    I LOVE it!
She’s had the long hair do for quite sometime and it was time for a change.
It suits her, unlike some other *cough* people you mentioned there, T. 😛

Well, I agree with what you wrote, but not with all of it. Regardless, it’s all great material. Thanks!
